# Sharing folders (video tutorial)

## Overview

Many organizations that use Cloudinary have thousands, if not millions, of digital assets stored in their system. However, certain Assets users may not need to access all the [images](image_transformations#supported_image_formats), [videos](video_manipulation_and_delivery#supported_video_formats) and [raw files](upload_parameters#uploading_non_media_files_as_raw_files).

Because of this, Cloudinary offers the ability to [add a layer of security to your folders](dam_folders_collections_sharing#folder_sharing_and_permissions), allowing access to only those who have the proper permissions to do so.

### Prerequisites for adding permissions
{table:class=tutorial-bullets}| |
| --- | --- |
|{videotime:id=media :min=0 :sec=35 :player=cld} | To allow permissions for specific folders, you must have multiple [users configured](dam_admin_users_groups#user_configuration). |

### Create folders with assets
{table:class=tutorial-bullets}| |
| --- | --- |
|{videotime:id=media :min=0 :sec=46 :player=cld} | We also recommend [developing the folders](dam_folders_collections_sharing#create_folders) and [associated assets](dam_upload_store_assets) you intend to share before you actually share them with user group members. |

### Create user groups
{table:class=tutorial-bullets}| |
| --- | --- |
|{videotime:id=media :min=1 :sec=49 :player=cld} | Once you have created your folder and added your desired assets to it, now you're ready to take the next step in applying folder permissions - [creating a user group](dam_admin_users_groups#user_group_configuration). This will allow you to assign specific users to the group, and then eventually apply permissions to all of its members. |

### Set folder permissions for user groups
{table:class=tutorial-bullets}| |
| --- | --- |
|{videotime:id=media :min=2 :sec=46 :player=cld} | After creating a user group, you can [apply permissions for a folder](dam_folders_collections_sharing#how_to_share_folders), ranging from view-only access to full management of the assets. |

### Add users to a user group
{table:class=tutorial-bullets}| |
| --- | --- |
|{videotime:id=media :min=3 :sec=46 :player=cld} | Now that you have created your user group and shared a folder with it, any users with the [**Media library user** role](dam_admin_users_groups#role_based_permissions) can be added to that group. |
