# Video management intro (video tutorial)

## Overview

In this short tutorial, you'll see how to take a video you've produced and upload it to your [Media Library](https://console.cloudinary.com/console/media_library). Additionally, you'll see how to apply [basic transformations](video_manipulation_and_delivery) for aesthetic and web optimization purposes.

## Tutorial contents
This tutorial presents the following topics. Click a timestamp to jump to that part of the video.
### Upload the video content
{table:class=tutorial-bullets}| |
| --- | --- |
|{videotime:id=media :min=0 :sec=13 :player=cld} | Upload a video from your local file system by [logging into your account](https://console.cloudinary.com/console), then using the [Upload Widget in the Media Library](dam_upload_store_assets#media_library_upload_widget).|

### Understand web friendly and non-web friendly video formats
{table:class=tutorial-bullets}| |
| --- | --- |
|{videotime:id=media :min=0 :sec=59 :player=cld} | Some [video file formats](video_manipulation_and_delivery#supported_video_formats) may not necessarily be best suited for web and mobile usage. So, Cloudinary can [dynamically convert and normalize](video_optimization) the file to the relevant web formats, such as MP4 and WebM, then encode the files for different web browsers and mobile devices. |

### Optimize the video for web delivery
{table:class=tutorial-bullets}| |
| --- | --- |
|{videotime:id=media :min=1 :sec=16 :player=cld} | Now that the file is in your Media Library, you can make transformations to it for optimization, right from the [transformation editor](dam_editing_and_transformations#using_the_transformation_editor). To do so, select the **Edit** icon on the file in the Media Library. |

### Set the video codec parameter to auto
{table:class=tutorial-bullets}| |
| --- | --- |
|{videotime:id=media :min=1 :sec=33 :player=cld} | One of the more commonly useful transformations to apply is through the [video_codec parameter](transformation_reference#vc_video_codec) and setting it to [auto](transformation_reference#vc_auto). This allows Cloudinary to normalize the file and optimize the video for the web, including its audio settings. |

### Apply aesthetic changes to the video with transformations
{table:class=tutorial-bullets}| |
| --- | --- |
|{videotime:id=media :min=2 :sec=03 :player=cld} | As an example, you can [overlay a logo](video_layers#image_overlays) and place it in the southeast corner of the video. |

### Chain transformations
{table:class=tutorial-bullets}| |
| --- | --- |
|{videotime:id=media :min=2 :sec=55 :player=cld} | Aesthetic transformations can be done in conjunction with optimization transformations, [chaining together](image_transformations#chained_transformations) endless opportunities for file customization. |
