This year Cloudinary’s back to celebrate Open Source and Hacktoberfest as big as ever!
We have SDKs and example projects waiting for your help to build a great experience, including GitHub Issues on both code and documentation.
Like last year, we’re giving away 50 special swag packs, including a limited edition 2024 Hacktoberfest T-shirt, stickers, and the beloved Cloudinary unicorn for any valid submission.
Ready to dig in? Here’s how.
Hacktoberfest, now in its 11th year, is an annual celebration for Open Source projects. It started from a small group in 2014, and has grown to attract nearly 98,000 contributors as of last year. This month-long celebration takes place annually throughout October.
To encourage participation, Hacktoberfest typically includes incentives like swag, but because of logistics concerns, the official program now offers digital badges instead of physical swag. However, if you participate with a valid submission to a Cloudinary project, we’ll send you a free swag pack with details below.
That said, Hacktoberfest is more than just swag, it’s about the celebration and support of Open Source projects around the world!
Cloudinary is opening up a variety of libraries and SDK to give you the opportunity to contribute, including the official SDKs, community SDKs, and sample projects.

To be sure you’re contributing to a project that’s participating in Hacktoberfest, look for the “Hacktoberfest” label in the repository!
While we absolutely appreciate all contributions in any form, only those who follow the rules below will be eligible for the Cloudinary swag pack:
- DO NOT submit spammy PRs. These will immediately be marked as invalid.
- DO NOT submit typo fixes. These might be merged (thank you), but won’t count towards swag.
- DO NOT submit a PR without an active Issue that has been approved. While we appreciate your eagerness to contribute, please first find an Issue or file a new Issue where we can discuss before digging into a PR.
- DO NOT submit a PR for an Issue assigned to someone else. We want to make sure everyone has a timely opportunity to contribute, but don’t hesitate to ask the assignee if they’re still working on it.
- DO have fun!
As a general best practice, please make sure the project’s tests are passing and actually try to run the code, where applicable. See the Contributing instructions in each project for help.
Note: We reserve the right to not send a swag pack if we feel that the contribution fails to reflect the spirit of Hacktoberfest or if it doesn’t meet the qualifications above.
This year’s swag pack will include:
- 1 Cloudinary Hacktoberfest T-shirt (Limited Edition)
- 2 Cloudinary Hacktoberfest Stickers (Limited Edition)
- 3 Cloudinary Stickers
- 1 Cloudinary Unicorn
We’re excited about our kit this year and are even more excited for it to arrive at your doorstep.
We have 50 available that will be given out on a first come, first served basis.
- Where do you ship?
We’ll try our best to ship the swag to wherever you are in the world, but we won’t be able to ship to any actively sanctioned countries. Additionally, countries like Brazil may need a Tax ID ahead of time.
- How do I give you my shipping information?
Once your contribution is accepted and merged, we’ll provide you with an address form. We’ll use the address you sent us “as is.” We can’t take responsibility for misdelivered packages.
- Can I get more than one swag pack?
No, there will only be one swag pack per person.
- When do I need to submit a Pull Request?
The Pull Request needs to be submitted in October. That said, if we don’t merge it in time, we won’t keep you from that sweet swag, as long as it’s valid and submitted in October, you’re good to go.
- How many swag kits are available?
We have 50 swag kits available on a first come, first serve basis.
- What if you run out of swag kits?
We would still love for you to contribute and celebrate open source with us! However, we’re limited in the amount of swag kits we can provide this year, so we wouldn’t be able to reward you with a kit.
