We’re joining forces with Miguel Ángel Durán again to bring a new hackathon: Spooky AI Creations!
Miguel is a frontend developer and content creator from Spain, with a vibrant community of passionate developers. In our previous Tech Product hackathon, Miguel’s community brought unique creativity and innovation to the mission of building an awesome product with Cloudinary.
This year, we’ll be running the hackathon from October 8 to 22. Lots of prizes up for grabs!
If you participated in our last hackathon, you already know the deal, but let’s get into the details.
Your mission is to build something, anything, with Cloudinary that fits the theme of “Spooky AI Creation.”
What could that look like?
- Images with spoOoOoky effects.
- Videos with creeeeepy overlays.
- Transforming images with otherworldly backgrounds.
- Using AI to generate bone-chilling creations.
While the effects of those ideas are haunting, imagine the nightmarish scenario of anyone being able to upload an image and video and your application can apply those effects dynamically.
For example, when someone uploads something:
- Transform the image of a person into a ghost.
- Add slime, fog, and terrifying sound effects over images and videos.
- Use AI background replacement with a haunted prompt.
- Extract and compose different parts of an image into a dreadful scene.
You could even generate a personalized video from scratch… Scary!
To get started, jump in Miguel’s Discord and/or the Cloudinary Discord to chat about your project. If you want some bonus credits to get started, register using this form.
The app, script, or creation should use Cloudinary tech to achieve the desired effect, ideally with a “spooky” AI-driven component.
While submitting a single image with transformations is exciting, the goal is to create a script, UI, or even a chat interface that allows someone to use your creation and customize their own images and/or videos.
This also means going above and beyond basic uploads and storage, really unleashing your fiendish creativity for something spectacularly spooky.
Cloudinary supports a wide variety of official SDKs like Node.js, Python, Go, React Native, and more.
We also have some great community SDKs like Next.js, Astro, Nuxt, Svelte, and Laravel.
Ultimately, the tech stack doesn’t matter as long as Cloudinary plays a major role.
Note: We reserve the right to determine whether the product or application meets the standards above.
As mentioned above, your app or script must include Cloudinary and:
- Participants must register and use a Cloudinary account (free tier available!).
- The product or application must be publicly deployed.
- The product or application must be hosted in a public GitHub repository.
- The submission must be in on or before October 22, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. PT.
Submit your project using this form and share on social media. Make sure to tag@cloudinary and add the hashtag #cloudcreate!
We’re excited to offer even bigger prizes than our first hackathon.
The top 10 winners will all receive one Cloudinary Swag Kit, which includes:
- 1 Limited Edition Cloudinary x Midudev Tshirt
- 1 Limited Edition Cloudinary x Midudev Sticker

The top three winners will also receive:

- $250 and a free Cloudinary Plus account for 1 year

Some of the top winners’ work will also be featured on the Cloudinary Blog.
And to make sure everyone’s a winner, anyone who enters with a valid submission will receive five free bonus credits for their Cloudinary account!
First, register for the hackathon using this form:
Registration Form (cld.media/cloudcreateregister)
While registration isn’t strictly required, we’ll give you some bonus credits for your mischievous hacking.
Once your project is hosted on GitHub and deployed, following the rest of the rules above, submit your project using this form:
Submission Form (cld.media/cloudcreatesubmit)
Who can participate?
You! Anyone can participate, but there are a few restrictions around eligibility of prizes, including the inclusion of teams described below and non-Cloudinary employees.
Are teams allowed?
Yes, teams are allowed, but prizes are limited to one recipient. Your team leader can then decide how to split the prize(s). We’ll try to accommodate more swag for teams when possible.
How are winners determined?
Winners will be selected by Miguel, the midudev community, and members of the Cloudinary Developer Experience team based on the uniqueness of the application or script and how spoOoOoOoky it is. Winners will be announced live on Miguel’s Twitch!
Where do I go if I have a question or run into issues?
There will be Cloudinary CloudCreate: Spooky AI Hackathon dedicated channels in Miguel’s Discord and Cloudinary Discord. Both channels will be staffed with helpful folks ready to lend you a hand.
You can also post questions on Twitter tagging Miguel or Cloudinary, adding the hashtag #cloudcreate.
Or, you can check out the standard Cloudinary support channels including the Community forums, GitHub Issues, or Cloudinary Support.
See you at the event, and good luck!
