Contentful Integration Update: Video Workflow, Image Editing, and Smart Search

Back in 2020, Cloudinary and Contentful first teamed up to make it easier for content teams to access and manage visual media by connecting great content with great visuals within the Contentful workspace.

Today, the Cloudinary integration for Contentful is getting some upgrades: a dedicated video workflow, built-in image editing and smarter asset search. Teams can create and publish visual media experiences faster without extra resources or tools without leaving Contentful. This marks the start of ongoing integration enhancements that will give customers access to no-code features (unavailable in any other CMS) that enable rapid content adaptation and reuse for every omnichannel experience.

Marketers increasingly rely on video to boost credibility, tell branded stories, and increase conversions. But it’s one of the most difficult asset types to manage. File sizes are large, formats vary, and edits often depend on design tools or creative support. These barriers all slow down production and delivery. 

Making simple video tweaks is seldom simple. It usually means looping in a designer, exporting new versions, or jumping between editing tools to make small changes that slow publishing down.

The new, dedicated workflow offers:

  • An efficient way to browse, preview, and select videos directly from Cloudinary Assets without leaving Contentful. 
  • The ability to easily repurpose existing videos by trimming them to just the relevant segments. No creative resources required. 

This focused flow removes the friction of downloading, reuploading, toggling between platforms, and recruiting specialist support for simple video trims.

With the new image editing capabilities, marketers can now handle image edits directly in Contentful, including:

  • Cropping an image, resizing, or adding a text or image overlay can all be done inline, without breaking focus or leaving the platform. 
  • As part of this streamlined flow, real-time previews show exactly how each edit will appear across channels, helping teams publish confidently and stay on brand.

It’s a problem as old as the hills, finding the right image in a DAM. With custom DAM search filters, teams can narrow results using parameters that mirror their Contentful attributes, like product line, market, or campaign tag. Here’s how it works: 

  • Assets are enriched automatically when uploaded to Cloudinary. Upload presets automatically add AI-generated tags and relevant metadata so every asset becomes instantly searchable and easier to manage.
  • Contentful then uses that enriched metadata to filter results. Cloudinary content fields can be configured to search on tags, SKUs, or any other metadata, surfacing only relevant and approved assets. 

A marketer working on a regional campaign, for example, can instantly surface only the approved visuals for that market and brand, without having to sort through a global library. And, when they select a video in a Contentful content model, only videos will surface in the DAM search results. By connecting filters to familiar metadata and tagging structures, assets become easier to find and reuse. Faster discovery. Cleaner organization. On-brand visuals across every channel.

The new integration will roll out automatically to existing users of the Cloudinary app in the Contentful Marketplace. There’s no migration or setup required, but Cloudinary Video is required to unlock all the new video capabilities.
