It removes a green screen background from a photo and lets you replace it with transparency, a solid colour or another image. Chroma key is the technique film and TV have used for decades, and it works because a saturated green is a colour almost never found in skin or clothing, so software can separate it cleanly from the subject.
It depends on the shot. An evenly lit green backdrop with the subject standing well clear of it gives the cleanest cut. Shadows on the backdrop, wrinkles in the fabric, or green light spilling onto the subject’s shoulders all make the edge harder to find, which is why studios light the screen separately from the subject.
Yes, it is free to use online, the result carries no watermark and there is nothing to install. Upload the photo, let the background drop out, choose what replaces it and download. If you need the same job done across a shoot rather than on one frame, the Cloudinary API runs it in bulk on the same infrastructure.
A PNG with a transparent background if you plan to composite it yourself later, or a finished image with your chosen colour or photo already sitting behind the subject. Either way the subject keeps its original resolution. Download as PNG rather than JPEG when you want the transparency preserved, because JPEG has no alpha channel and fills the empty area with white.
Yes. Background removal runs through the Cloudinary API, so a studio shoot or a catalogue of product photos can be processed in one pass instead of file by file. Because it happens on delivery, you keep one clean original and serve the cut out version, which means you can change the background later without re-processing anything.
