December is as much about looking ahead to the coming year as it is about looking back on the year that was. Typically, amid the 2024 planning, many of us find ourselves looking back to be better able to plot our future. In the spirit of reflection, we’ve endeavored to create two retrospectives. The outputs of these efforts are the 2023 Cloudinary Global Web Developer Survey and the 2023 State of Visual Media Report released on December 11.
The results of the 2023 Cloudinary Global Web Developer Survey are in. Not surprisingly, developers are increasingly, and enthusiastically, turning to artificial intelligence (AI) tools as their preferred way to enhance efficiency and productivity. The survey findings reveal how significant an impact AI is having on the development process and identifies key trends in the developer community.
The Cloudinary Global Web Developer Survey was conducted by independent research company Researchscape International, polling 360 web developers located in 19 different countries between October 2 and November 2, 2023.
Topping the list of what matters most to devs, 68% cite improved efficiency and productivity as the foremost benefit of incorporating AI into their workflow. This underscores the role that AI is playing in streamlining development processes, allowing developers to focus on innovation and problem-solving instead of being bogged down in routine tasks.
Sixty-four percent of developers are actively using generative AI tools to streamline the development process. This includes using AI for workflow automation, where 54% of developers find significant value. The adoption of these tools reflects the growing recognition of AI’s ability to speed up development cycles and reduce manual efforts.
A nearly unanimous 99% of developers believe that generative AI tools have the potential to improve the overall developer experience. This widespread optimism indicates a strong conviction among developers that AI is more than a technological addition but a transformative force.
The integration of AI tools emerges as a pivotal factor in driving progress. Developers recognize the potential of AI not just as a tool but as a catalyst for innovation and efficiency.
