Video trimming and concatenating

Last updated: Jun-08-2026

When transforming and editing videos, you often need to adjust the length of a clip, join multiple assets together, or add transitions between scenes. This section covers the Cloudinary transformation options for trimming videos and building concatenated video sequences.

Trimming videos

Trim a video or audio clip by specifying the section to keep. You can set a start time, an end time, or a duration, using either seconds or a percentage of the asset's length.

Concatenating media

Concatenate videos together, concatenate videos with images, or splice only part of a clip into another video. Concatenation uses the splice flag to join media assets into a single video instead of placing the added asset as an overlay.

Transition effects

Add transition effects when concatenated assets should blend together instead of switching with a hard cut. You can apply cross fade transitions between videos, or between videos and images.
