Why can't I downgrade my plan?
Last updated: May-05-2026
When you attempt to downgrade your plan, the Plans Details page shows you the specific reason you can't proceed. This page explains each possible blocker and how to resolve it.
Paid features not supported on the target plan
Message: Your account currently has paid features that aren't supported in the downgraded plan.
Your account is using one or more features available only on your current plan tier. To downgrade, you must remove those features first. The Console lists the specific features blocking the downgrade.
Too many users
Message: Your account currently has more users than the downgraded plan allows.
Your account has more users than the target plan permits. To resolve this, reduce the number of users on your account to fit within the target plan's limit. You can manage users from Console Settings > Users.
Too many product environments
Message: Your account currently has more product environments than the downgraded plan allows.
Your account has more product environments than the target plan allows. Reduce the number of product environments to fit the target plan's allocation. You can manage product environments from Console Settings > Product Environments.
Unsupported add-ons active
Message: Some add-ons on your account aren't supported on this plan.
One or more of your active add-ons require a paid plan tier that is higher than the plan you're downgrading to. The Console lists the specific add-ons that need to be deactivated. Go to Console Settings > Add-ons to deactivate them, then retry the downgrade.
Unpaid invoices
Message: Your account has unpaid invoices.
You have one or more outstanding invoices that must be settled before you can change plans. Resolve the unpaid invoices from the Invoices page in Console Settings, then retry the downgrade.
Usage exceeds the target plan's limits
Message: Your usage over the past 30 days exceeds the limits of the downgraded plan.
Your current transformation or bandwidth usage is higher than what the target plan allows. You have two options:
- Wait: Transformation and bandwidth usage is measured over a rolling 30-day window. Usage from older activity drops out of the window naturally — you can retry the downgrade once your usage falls within the target plan's limits.
- Reduce usage: Delete unused assets to immediately reduce storage. For transformations and bandwidth, you'll need to wait for the rolling window to catch up unless you can reduce current activity.
See Usage calculation period for more details on how the 30-day window works.
Different billing cycle
Message: You can't downgrade to a plan with a different billing cycle from your current one.
The target plan uses a different billing cycle than your current plan. Contact support for assistance with this type of plan change.
Custom delivery hostname (CNAME)
Message: A custom delivery hostname (CNAME) configuration is active on your account but isn't supported in the downgraded plan.
Your account has a custom delivery hostname (CNAME) configured, which is a premium feature not available on lower-tier plans. Contact support to remove the CNAME configuration before downgrading.
